ASHCOTT VILLAGE HALL  Registered Charity Number 900075

The Village Hall is situated in the High Street next to the Church in the heart of the village.  It is a well-equipped modern building, with its own 12 space car park at the rear and a disabled bay near to the front entrance.  There is a drop off lay-by in front adjacent to the road.

The Hall's History

The original property was the old “Churchroom or School” that was bought from the Bath and Wells Diocesan board of Finance and the Parochial Church Council in 1985 by Ashcott Parish Council.  It is held upon trust for the “purposes of a village and for the use of the inhabitants of the Parish of Ashcott.  Massive fundraising by the villagers continued throughout the following years and the Schoolroom was demolished to make way for the present building.  The old entrance porch and door, dating from 1852,  were carefully salvaged and now form the entrance to the present Hall.  The new building was opened in 1987.

The Main Hall floor is of sprung maple and is ideal for dancing. It is licensed to seat 128 at tables or 240 without tables.  The balcony in the main hall extends the seating capacities.

A unique feature is the hydraulic stage that can be raised and lowered at the press of a button.  It has stage extensions and full curtains.  Drama and musical producers may like to make full use of our excellent lighting and sound equipment. An excess noise inhibitor is fitted.

The large kitchen is available to all hirers, at no extra charge, and comes with crockery and cutlery for 100 place settings, two refrigerators, an eight-burner/double oven gas cooker and electric cooker, microwave oven and ample work surfaces and serving hatches.

Our Premises Licence allows you to provide your guests with alcohol.  Should you wish to sell alcohol you must acquire a Temporary Events Notice from the local District Council.  We can advise you on how to go about this task.

Our Hall is a non-smoking venue.

The Hall has central heating and air circulation installed.

There is good provision for people with disabilities - level access, toilet facilities and the installation of a hearing loop.  A wheelchair is available.

Baby changing facilities are provided.

Many clubs and societies use the hall for regular weekly or monthly meetings and activities.

The committee room can be booked separately for smaller meetings for up to 20 people or in addition to the main hall when more space is needed.

The Hall has won several awards including Best Village Hall in the County and latterly the Community Council Hallmarks Awards I and II.
