Hidden Somerset is a project which is hosted by the Community Council for Somerset, and began in January 2007.  The aim of the project is to create a website which will give details of local attractions and businesses which are not necessarily known about on the normal tourism route.

The project is funded by The Levels and Moors Leader+ Programme and by Somerset Rural Renaissance

"What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare"  W H Davies

Do you ever feel 'the world is too crowded; what you need is to get away from it all, - yet not so far from luxuries like a well prepared dinner and a really comfortable bed'?

Hidden Somerset logoSomerset is a delightful rural county - a place where the pace is just ...... slower.  From sheep fairs and withy growing, to beer festivals and walking along an empty beach, Somerset is a great place to explore, relax and unwind.

As the use of the internet for planning outings and holidays continues to increase, the Hidden Somerset website will assist in promoting the smaller, lesser known attractions, events, businesses and communities in Somerset to a broad range of visitors.  This will enable visitors to experience some of Somerset's more interesting and unique features.

The comprehensive website helps visitors to plan all aspects of their stay including where to stay, where to eat and what to do, enabling them to create an itinerary specific to their needs.

Advantages of the website include:

bulletMarkets the uniqueness of Somerset.
bulletIncreases tourism activity in the County.
bulletPromotes lesser known businesses and attractions at a regional, national and international level.
bulletIncreases participation and understanding of traditional and rural activities.
bulletIncreases the use of rural services and amenities.
bulletPromotes local events to local people as well as visitors encouraging everyone to explore further.
bulletEnables more people to join in local events.

www.hiddensomerset.com is designed to share the 'bits the others can't reach' (to acknowledge a well known old advert).  This website opens up enormous variety of little known gems across the county, where you are most unlikely to meet a coach load of tourists.  Explore Somerset's more interesting historic, geographical and cultural features, the things which make our county so special and unique.

The Hidden Somerset events page is a great way to see what's going on in and around the county and a wonderful way to meet the locals.  Circular walks, cycling for miles along back lanes, wonderful gardens, and quiet hides for watching wildlife and birds, historical monuments tucked away with stories to tell - what's your delight?

Information for Businesses

The Hidden Somerset web site seeks to promote the small tourism unit in Somerset.  If you are a big player in Somerset tourism - we are not for you.  If you are a small scale attraction, small accommodation provider, village wanting to promote what you have to offer tourists - this is the site for you.  If you are not sure you if you are an appropriate entry please contact us.

The site is not 'just a list of Bed & Breakfasts'. But to be attractive it needs to flag up local events on a regular basis.  The local 'Open Gardens', 'Duck Race', 'Flower Festival', 'Mega Car Boot Sale, 'Farmers Market', etc.  We need to hear about it.  This is what makes the Hidden-ness of bye way Somerset really interesting and attractive for visitors.

How To Join?
