Mtiebi
-
Traditional Georgian Male Voice Choir. A rare opportunity to
see this internationally-renowned, authentic male voice choir from
the heart of the Caucasian mountains with a repertoire of songs
and music that stretches back over centuries with a song for every
occasion - powerful, exhilarating and uplifting! The Mtiebi choir
of ten male voices (and dancers) bring with them traditional
songs, music and dances gathered from all over Georgia, most
collected from rural communities at times when the Soviet Union
was forbidding such an exercise. This collection saved music and
song from possible extinction and Mtiebi would often return to the
source village and perform for the local community as a way of
embedding it once again into rural tradition. It’s a living yet
ancient culture, and music from hundreds of years ago exists side
by side with more recent material. As well as these performances,
there will be workshops leading to a finale event by community
choirs at the Eden Project in Cornwall in June. |

Langport Walking Festival -
Once again
the English International Walking Festival at Langport will take
place over the course of a weekend in June, offering a series of
walks ranging from a scenic ramble to a full day’s trek.
Routes are different on both days, ranging from 10km, 20km and
42km to a gentle 5km, and cater for all ages and abilities. Food
and refreshments are provided at check points en route and at
start and finish of both days. To round off Friday and Saturday
evenings there’s good home cooked food and live music on Friday
from Bertie’s Big Band (Glen Miller style) and the Tone Valley
Jazz Band on Saturday night. Dogs are welcome and there are
special routes to accommodate wheelchairs and pushchairs. Walkers
are also encouraged to use the walks to raise funds for their
chosen charities. |

evocative sound. Karen Street, ranked among the top accordionists,
and Andy Tweed, well known on the saxophone scene, are joined by
one of the West Country’s busiest guitarists, Andy Barrett, and
