Village Communications Competition 2008

Launch of the 2008 Village and Parish Communications Competition

What better way to support a sustainable, vibrant community than through a Village (or Parish) newsletter or website!

For any rural community, newsletters and websites can play an important part in promoting village life, helping to improve the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.

Good communication channels are the recipe for success in so many situations; not least for rural community living.  The aim of this competition is to highlight all the great communications work going on in our rural communities and to recognise the hard work and commitment of those people who make it all happen.

Building on last year’s successful results and feedback, we have made a few changes to the categories for this year. We can confirm there will be two main categories as last year: ‘Websites’ and ‘Newsletters’. This year, Newsletter entries will be judged under one of the following four categories: A4 colour, A4 black and white, A5 Colour, A5 black and white. We welcome entries from across Somerset.

Somerset Web Services LogoWe are pleased to announce this year’s sponsor of the Website category as Somerset Web Services. Somerset Web Services offer a range of web design and hosting services, including Content Management Systems, e-commerce websites and are currently working with the Community Council for Somerset on our new improved website.

Somerset Web Services recently launched a major new product, The National Pages, (www.nationalpages.co.uk) which is an innovative business search engine, currently being showcased in the South West. This exciting product was launched on 28th April in Taunton and presentations will take place at roadshows throughout the region over the next six weeks.

The sponsor of the Newsletter category is yet to be confirmed.

Prizes are being negotiated at the time of going to print. Winners and Runners Up will receive certificates.

We hope there will be plenty of quality entries to make it tough for our judges, who relish a challenge and are ready to be wowed! They will be looking for aspects including:

bulletease of navigation of websites
bullet presentation and layout
bullethow widely newsletters are circulated
bullethow effectively events, activities and services are publicised.

We invite all you budding PR and marketing enthusiasts to “sell” your websites and newsletters as the best in Somerset by completing and submitting our simple entry form by 1pm, Friday 6th June 2008. Our judges, selected for their collective knowledge and experience of community websites and newsletters, will then score each entry using set criteria.

The presentation of trophies and certificates will take place at the Community Council’s Annual General Meeting in September.

Entry forms can be downloaded using the link at the bottom of the page.

Alternatively, contact Kelly Mason (projectsupport@somersetrcc.org.uk), Tel. 01823 331222 to receive a copy by post.
