Annual General Meeting 2009

 

The Community Council for Somerset's Annual General Meeting took place on Tuesday 15th September 2009 at Burtle Village Hall TA7 8NB.  Over 70 people attended the meeting.

The meeting commenced at 4.00pm and after the formal part of the meeting there was a Community Project Showcase, from a selection of communities who have used the services of the Community Council for Somerset.

 

Community Project Showcase: brief presentations were given by each of the following projects where the Community Council for Somerset has helped over the past year:

Janet Powell, (pictured left) Chair for Barton St David Parish Plan Advisory committee spoke about - The Creation of a Parish Plan

Showcase two: Rural Housing Enabling - Barton St David

Rob Jarvis , (pictured right) Chairman for Barton St David Parish Council spoke about Barton St David's assessment of the need for additional affordable housing and the progress of the project to date.

Showcase three: Rural Services - Community Shops  - Shipham

Mrs Hansford, (pictured left) Proprietor of HANSFORDS Village Butchers and Stores in Shipham spoke about their project tp make improvements to their shop with help from the Community Council for Somerset and Store is the Core.

Laura Tilling(;ictured left) the founder of Use Less, Share More, spoke about this environmental group based in Castle Cary about how the group was launched and then turning ideas into actions.

Andrea Johnstone (pictured right) who is a Hallmark Visitor spoke about how the visitors acknowledge and encourage excellence in the management of Village Halls.

Showcase seven - Burtle Village Hall

Robin Howell, (pictured left) project leader on the  Burtle Village Hall spoke on "After the Lottery said 'No'" - An Innovative Approach to a Village Hall Renovation Project.

 

Refreshments were served following the showcase presentation, which gave people the opportunity to question the speakers in more detail about their projects and to have a tour of Burtle Village Hall to see some of the innovative features of the new hall.
