This sustainable tourism project began in January 2007 and is hosted by the Community Council for Somerset. The project is delivered through a website, with the aim of promoting local attractions and businesses which are not necessarily known about on the normal tourism route.
The project is funded by The Levels and Moors Leader+ Programme and by Somerset Rural Renaissance.
Do you ever feel 'the world is too crowded; what you need is to get away from it all, - yet not so far from luxuries like a well prepared dinner and a really comfortable bed'?
Somerset is a delightful rural county - a place where the pace is just ...... slower. From sheep fairs and withy growing, to beer festivals and walking along an empty beach. Somerset is a great place to explore, relax and unwind.
As the use of the internet for planning outings and holidays continues to increase, the Hidden Somerset website will assist in promoting the smaller, lesser known attractions, events, businesses and communities in Somerset to a broad range of visitors. This will enable visitors to experience some of Somerset's more interesting and unique features.
The comprehensive website helps visitors to plan all aspects of their stay, including where to stay, where to eat and what to do. This enables them to create an itinerary specific to their needs.
Advantages of the website include:
www.hiddensomerset.com is designed to share the 'bits the others can't reach' (to acknowledge a well known old advert). This website opens up enormous variety of little known gems across the county, where you are most unlikely to meet a coach load of tourists. Explore Somerset's more interesting historic, geographical and cultural features, the things which make our county so special and unique.
The site is not 'just a list of Bed & Breakfasts' however. The events page flags up local events on a regular basis. For example, the local 'Open Gardens', 'Duck Race', 'Flower Festival', 'Mega Car Boot Sale, 'Farmers Market', etc. To keep the events section fresh, we need to hear about it. This is what makes the Hidden-ness of bye way Somerset really interesting and attractive for visitors.
