Social Accounting

What is Social Accounting?

"Social Accounting" was originally designed as a means for organisations working in the community to report on their performance, prove the value of their organisations and gather information essential for planning future action.

The Community Council for Somerset and Social Accounting

The Community Council for Somerset is a keen supporter of "Social Accounting", having previously carried out two Social Audits.  We felt it was time to "roll up our sleeves" for a third time and look particularly at our Mission and Value Statements and one of our four key objectives:

"To raise the profile of the Community Council and to promote its mission" and its six related activities.

We spent several months reviewing our Mission, Values, Objectives and associated activities, gathering information and consulting with key stakeholders as part of the Social Accounting process.

A key component of the Social Accounts was a questionnaire, distributed to 609 stakeholders.  We received a 23% response rate and were encouraged with the supportive and constructive feedback.  This will be used to shape our future activities. We would like to thank people for supporting this process.

Our Social Accounts have now been signed off.  They have been verified by an external social audit panel which scrutinised the process and produced a formal Social Audit Statement.  This is similar to the traditional Trustees' statement found in all charity annual reports.Social Accounts cover 08
