The SLINKY services have been developed by Somerset County Councils Integrated Passenger Transport Unit and are supported or funded by Somerset County Council, the District Councils, The Department for Transport, Strode College, the Job Centre Plus and Transport for Somerset. They offer a flexible, Demand Responsive service and can be used for a variety of journeys, below are some examples: Shopping, visiting friends, access to farmers markets, appointments, transport to local facilities or day classes. Transport to a local place of interest or a day trip out. A one way journey, where Public transport can not provide the journey or where it is not suitable. What is Community Transport? Community Based Accessible Transport in Somerset operates where other suitable transport is not available. The schemes offer different types of transport to people in areas where there is little or no Public Transport, or where, for a number of reasons, it is inaccessible to them. Accessible Transport services are provided for shopping trips, Health appointments, social trips, access to clubs and day-centres, access to Public Transport links and to community facilities, etc. Follow this link for more information on Community Transport schemes within Somerset http://www.somerset.gov.uk/somerset/ete/passengertransport/community/ What is a Community Car Scheme? Some larger Community Transport Groups also offer Community Car Schemes, often covering a District area. There is also a charge or donation for the service.
